چکیده

We introduce the Slime Mold Graph Repository, a novel data collection promoting the visibility, accessibility and reuse of experimental data revolving around network-forming slime molds. By making data instantly available for researchers across multiple disciplines, the SMGR promotes novel research as well as the reproduction of original results. While SMGR data may take various forms, we stress the importance of graph representations of slime mold networks due to their ease of handling and their large potential for reuse. Data added to the SMGR stands to gain impact beyond initial publications or even beyond its domain of origin. We initiate the SMGR with the comprehensive KIST Europe data set focused on the slime mold Physarum polycephalum. It contains sequences of images documenting growth and network formation of the organism under constant conditions. Suitable image sequences depicting the typical P. polycephalum network structures are used to compute sequences of graphs faithfully capturing them. Given such sequences, node identities are computed, tracking the development of nodes over time. The entire data set is well-documented, self-contained and ready for inspection via the SMGR at http://smgr.mpi-inf.mpg.de.

An Analytical Model for Percolation in Small Link Degree Transportation Networks

Microplasmodia of the slime mold Physarum polycephalum form a small link degree transportation network in a percolation transition in order to forage. We model this transition analytically within the configuration model of graph theory utilizing all partaking types of nodes. Quite generally, we find that at the percolation transition the formation of a small link degree network is topologically...

Simulation Model For The Whole Life Cycle Of The Slime Mold Dictyostelium Discoideum

Slime molds are fascinating organisms, they can either live as an organism consisting out of a single cell or they can form a multi-cellular organism. Therefore from the biological point of view, the slime molds are studied in order to understand the evolutionary step from a single cell organism to a multi-cellular organism. Studies have shown that the behavior of cooperating single cell organi...

Biochemical Changes during Growth and Encystment of the Cellular Slime Mold Polysphondylium Pallidum

The growth of the cellular slime mold, Polysphondylium pallidum, was studied on a semidefined medium in shaken suspension. When the medium contained large quantities of particulate material, growth was more rapid and the cellular size and protein content were smaller than when growth occurred on a medium containing less particulate material. The cellular levels of DNA, RNA, and protein; of lyso...

Non-linear Bioelectronic Element: Schottky Effect and Electrochemistry

Asymmetric electrical contact (gold and indium) was performed to the slime mold. Electrical characterization of such structure revealed rectifying behavior due to the Schottky effect and a hysteresis due to the electro-chemical activity within the slime mold. Physarum polycephalum belongs to the species of order Physarales, subclass Myxogastromycetidae, class Myxomycetes, and division Myxosteli...
